David Chewey

David Chewey, CLA
Garden Associates Landscape Architecture, Inc.

After starting his first landscape company at the age of 15, David Chewey earned a degree in Landscape Architecture in 1988 from Cook College and has since become a NJ certified Landscape Architect.

He founded Garden Associates Landscape Architecture in 1990, quickly building a loyal client base of residential and commercial clients. Garden Associates has experienced steady growth through both difficult economic times and cyclical downturns. With the vision and knowledge to predict economic trends and shifts in the industry, Chewey has been able to take advantage of opportunities for business growth. The company has maintained its position ahead of the competition, continuing company growth and preserving jobs.

In 2006, Chewey divested a portion of the installation operations of the business while focusing mainly on the design and project management, allowing Garden Associates to distinguish itself from the pack of landscape contractors and emerge as an industry leader in Landscape Architecture. At the same time, Chewey coached and mentored former employees to enable them to establish their own businesses, many of which are contracted for services with Garden Associates. He continues to provide guidance and support to ensure the highest possible quality of service while enabling young landscape contractors to realize their own dreams of building strong, viable businesses.

In 2007, as Garden Associates’ involvement in the community increased, David created “The Garden Beautiful,” the charitable arm of Garden Associates. Through this charity, Garden Associates has donated service and resources to numerous Eagle projects for Boy Scouts of America, renovations for local parks, therapeutic gardens for schools for children with disabilities, recreation areas for adult living facilities, and New Jersey adopt-a-highway program, to name a few.

Chewey has been a Cub Master for Cub Scout Pack 108 of Franklin Township in Hunterdon County since 2003, a choir member of St. Catherine of Sienna since 2002, and has been teaching a quarterly course at Hunterdon Central High School on Entrepreneurship since 2004. He is also on the Board of Trustees of Helyar House at Rutgers University. He is member of the prestigious Entrepreneurial Organization (EO), a member of the American Institute of Landscape Architects (ASLA), the American Institute of Architects (AIA), Community Builders Association of New Jersey (CBA), and the US Green Building Council, and the Somerset Business Partnership and the Hunterdon Country Chamber of Commerce.
