Somerset County has devoted itself to protecting its rich culture and heritage. And with a history that dates back to the 1600s, there is much to see! The American Revolution has its prominence here, as General George Washington and his troops stayed in New Jersey for quite some time—longer than any other colony. The county has preserved two headquarters of General Washington, as well as the homes of four generals under his command. On top of this, the county is teeming with historic bridges, train stations, houses, districts, museums and a variety of structures that re-tell the history of this vibrant area.
