Congrats to the Raritan Valley Community College.

Raritan Valley Community College is being recognized as the 2026 Sustainable Business of the Year for its long-standing leadership and measurable impact in advancing environmental stewardship in higher education. Nationally celebrated by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) as the “Top U.S. Community College for Sustainability Achievements,” RVCC has earned this distinction for 11 consecutive years—an extraordinary testament to its consistency and commitment. Sustainability is not a standalone initiative at the College, but a core institutional priority embedded within its five-year Strategic Plan, guiding everything from academic programming to campus operations. Under this vision, RVCC continues to lead by example, preparing students to be environmentally responsible leaders while reducing its own environmental footprint.
The College’s achievements are both ambitious and tangible. Since 2005, RVCC has reduced campus energy emissions by 58 percent, demonstrating a deep commitment to long-term environmental progress. It was also the first community college in the nation to sign an environmental stewardship agreement with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, setting a national standard for innovation. Today, the campus reflects this dedication with a wide array of green infrastructure and initiatives, including solar installations, LEED-certified buildings, electric vehicle charging stations, pollinator and rain gardens, and water conservation systems. As a recognized River Friendly campus, Bee Campus USA affiliate, and Monarch Watch certified institution, RVCC continues to redefine what sustainability leadership looks like in the region and beyond—making it a highly deserving recipient of the 2026 Sustainable Business of the Year Award.
